Fame The Musical, the unforgettable film and TV series, staged for the first time at the Krakow VARIETE Theatre in September! Fame The Musical inspires to fight for dreams that seem unattainable! The musical of David De Silva, known as “Father Fame”, is the story of students at New York’s prestigious High School for the Performing Arts. We follow their adventures from admission in 1980 to graduation in 1984.
The story is accompanied by catchy pop songs; the title song even won an Oscar. Young musicians, actors and dancers struggle with their own fears, addictions and the pressure of expectations. They learn the courage to succeed and triumph with determination. Students are aware that their school has been the subject of a film as well as a TV series and is a world-famous Fame School. Although they realise that everyday mundane reality isn’t a film set, they dream of fame and enthusiastically develop their artistic talents while neglecting “academic” subjects. One of the characters, Carmen, who one day jumps up on a table in the dining room and announces that she’s going to become a star, no matter what price she has to pay for it, reminds Irene Cara, author of the title song “Fame”. However, dreams, fantasies and ambitions collide with cruel reality. The discrepancy between what young people dream of and what happens to them is the central theme of Fame The Musical. The aim was to show the “truth” as much as possible, not to create a musical comedy. The performance is a mosaic of the talents of young Polish artists from allover the country, who are given the chance to use their versatile skills, including dancing, singing, acting and rapping.
Road to Fame is the first project organised in the Krakow area to enable the development of amateur artists through participation in workshops that culminate in the preparation of a licensed musical and its staging on a professional theatre stage.
The Road to Fame project is implemented by the House of Art – Professional Musical School in Krakow and the Krakow VARIETE Theatre. The aim of the project is to raise the level of artistic competence of people interested in studying performing arts. The aim of the project is to develop the already acquired skills in the field of musical art and to acquire new ones, as well as to integrate different creative communities. Road to Fame is dedicated to young amateur artists who want to train as musical stage actors and people who are particularly talented in singing, acting and dancing, but who haven’t yet had any contact with the art of musical performance. The project ends with the preparation and staging of the musical Fame four times on the professional stage of the Krakow VARIETE Theatre.
The musical Fame is being staged by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe) Limited [MTI] under a amateur licence.
Running time: 2 hours 15 minutes (plus intermission)
