On 22 December, join us to enjoy the magical Christmas atmosphere at Kraków's VARIETE Theatre with Marek Napiórkowski and Artur Lesicki - two guitar virtuosos, presenting compositions from their album Nocna Cisza. Kolędy released by Agora on 20 November 2020, which immediately won the hearts of listeners with its original arrangements of traditional carols and contemporary Christmas melodies.
Marek Napiórkowski and Artur Lesicki are two outstanding Polish guitarists who joined forces in 2015 to create Celuloid - their first release nominated for the FRYDERYK Music Award. On Nocna Cisza. Kolędy they tried to give a brand-new spin of their own to the familiar Christmas melodies and bring in the holiday cheer. The diverse tones of various guitars make up eight well-known tunes in brand-new jazz arrangements. This music works on many levels - on the one hand, it draws on tradition, and on the other, it offers a fresh take and some space for the musicians' improvisations.
“In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, surrounded by stuff, compounded by sensory overload, finding peace and quiet always makes us happy. Nocna Cisza can make you happy on many levels. If you are thirsty for Christmas cheer, it will give you the beloved melodies and tunes. If you are hungry for jazz, it is there for you with its bold harmonies and familiar themes. If you are looking for quiet and focused time, you will find it there. Sometimes that is enough. . . . If you want to ask us - why the carols? There are countless renditions already! - let us respond with the words of Keith Jarrett, who has been playing a bunch of old American songs that seemed to have been overplayed to hell and back: “It doesn’t matter what you play. It’s how you do it that matters.” – Marcin Kydryński
