The Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar, directed by Jakub Wocial and Santiago Bello, will return to the stage of Kraków's VARIETE Theatre in just a few months – this time in a special anniversary edition, celebrating the 10th anniversary of its premiere. On March 13, 2026, we invite you to a unique evening: the anniversary performance of Jesus Christ Superstar, followed by a birthday gathering and a short concert featuring artists who have been connected with this title over the years, as well as friends of Broadway in Poland.

Jesus Christ Superstar is an iconic rock opera by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, who managed to shake up the musical theatre world in the 1970s. The story of Christ’s seven final days was initially only released as a concept album due to the authors’ concerns that a full show could be seen by many as blasphemous. Even though some still see it as controversial, many consider it a profound spiritual experience. Some even took to calling the rendition by Wocial and Bello a ‘religious and rock retreat’ - including Jan Bończa-Szabłowski in his article in Rzeczpospolita.
Wocial and Bello’s staging is well thought out and superbly directed - they keep the audience at the edge of their seats, constantly engaged in the events taking place on and off the stage. The masterful interpretations of the classic compositions take the viewers on a journey into a different dimension (Jakub Panek, Gazeta.pl), and the choreography is not limited to being a mere interlude - it constitutes an integral part of the story. “All of these elements, which were meticulously brought together and interwoven to form a cohesive whole, result in an intricate mosaic of emotions and excitement, supported by the talent and sensitivity of the performing artists,” said Szymon Ludwiczak at szymonokulturze.pl.
