THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG
Maybe it’s a bit unfortunate, but the longest-running comedy of West End will also bring organised chaos to the stage of the Krakow VARIETE Theatre. We present an absolutely (im)perfect story and we apologise in advance all involved spectators, but things will really go WRONG this time. The Play That Goes Wrong directed by Janusz Szydłowski will begin its series of comic missteps on 3 February 2024. Tickets have just gone on sale.
The Play That Goes Wrong tells the story of a (fictional) theatre group Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society staging a 1920s crime play but, as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong... does go wrong! With the floor threatening to collapse and props falling from everywhere, mixing up one’s lines seems to be the least of the problems. The accident-prone actors (with a double cast) spend two acts struggling against numerous odds to survive to the final scene, which gives rise to a series of comical events and effects. We don’t know if they’ll be able to solve the crime mystery, but remember, all this madness is first and foremost about having fun!
Awarded the 2014 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Comedy, the 2015 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and a Tony Award for the Broadway transfer, The Play That Goes Wrong is the longest running play at The Duchess Theatre (since the theatre opened in 1929), and is the longest running comedy in the West End. Now celebrating 11 years since its first performance at The Old Red Lion fringe venue, with only four paying customers, The Play That Goes Wrong shows no signs of slowing down. Since then, it has played to an audience of over two million in over 35 countries and on every continent, except for Antarctica, which it has avoided for fear of a chilly reception.
The show’s success is a testament to the hard work and determination of a group of drama school graduates who became friends, set up a company under the name ‘Mischief’ and created an extraordinary body of work. The Play That Goes Wrong is co-written by Mischief company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields and produced by Kenny Wax Ltd and Stage Presence Ltd. Premiera, która poszła nie tak is presented under licence of Mischief Worldwide Ltd. in a replica version, according to which, all elements of the staging of the show, will be faithfully reproduced against the original. Marketing activities are also carried out in accordance with the licensor’s strict guidelines.
Running time: 2 hours 15 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.
