DESCRIPTION

SIX is a colourful, humorous and bold story about the power of women and their place in history, which won numerous accolades around the world, from the West End to Broadway! Based on the famous and enthralling story of the six wives of the King of England, Henry VIII, Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss pay tribute to all the women who have built up their position over the centuries, fighting exclusion, objectification and rejection. By adapting the musical for the Polish audiences, director Katarzyna Chlebny wants to draw attention to how unity and mutual support empower women.

“Divorced. Betrayed. Died. Divorced. Betrayed. Survived...” Six strong women, playing contemporary pop culture icons, showcase HIStories (or HERstories, as they would call them) from distant times, which somehow remain relevant to this day...

Inspired by some of pop music's greatest artists, including Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Avril Lavinge, Adele, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears and Alicia Keys, the Queens of Stage take us on an enthralling journey filled with emotions, singing, dancing and explosion of colours throughout history. Like the greatest stars, they compete for their position and the title of the best performer, which will go to the one who suffers the most.

Through the strength of their characters, the power of empathy, awareness and experience, they show us a world in which we can build each other up with support and unity, despite past injustices. We have the power and we learn solidarity by walking together along the newly trodden path of our rights. Together, hand in hand. Sometimes with a smile on our faces, sometimes feeling the regret of the past, sometimes with a clenched fist, because there is still much to be done...

The contemporary Queens walk through the world with this message, giving strength and courage to all women, while... inviting the men to step into a new and better tomorrow - dancing together.

Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, Catherine Parr. You have probably heard of them already - they were Henry VIII's six wives. It is time to get to know them as the King of England's ex-wives, who take control of their own HERstories, because losing one’s head hurts way more than a broken heart.

SIX, the musical by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, tells the story of Henry VIII's six wives competing for the title of the one who suffered most by being married to the infamous king. When they discover that comparisons are pointless because the only thing they have in common is their husband, they discover that they are all unique, which is the key to reconciliation and true freedom.

SIX is an energetic and witty musical that combines history with a modern storytelling style in an innovative way to create a one-of-a-kind, dynamic pop concert. Although the Queens have historical prototypes, each has a unique identity, based on the distinctive style and personalities of contemporary music stars - Beyoncé, Avril Lavigne, Adele, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and Alicia Keys. They abandon their roles as victims and become icons who celebrate their independence and partnership to shine again. The show features impressive women’s voices, modern choreography and a wealth of sets and costumes that will make you lose your mind!

SIX is a story of women's strength and solidarity in a shared struggle for their place in history.

SIX is an experience that forces us to rethink the role of women in history and in the contemporary world.

SIX shows us that we can face any challenge - as long as we work together.

Are you ready to take the throne?

An international phenomenon

The musical was co-created by Cambridge University students - Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow. It was first shown at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and became an overnight success. Just a couple months later, the musical was showcased at the Arts Theatre in the West End. The winning streak was temporarily interrupted by the pandemic. It finally made its Broadway debut at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in 2021 and now it is making rounds around the world, winning accolades for its innovative approach to story, humour and strong feminist message.

The musical has won dozens of awards, including the theatre industry's most important accolades: 2 Tony Awards (2022) for the Best Musical and Best Costumes, 4 WhatsOnStage Awards (2020), including for the Best New Musical or 2 Drama Desk Awards (2022).

SIX is presented in partnership with Concord Theatricals.
