A musical by Jakub Lubowicz, who composed the music, and Jakub Szydłowski, who wrote the libretto referring to the famous events that took place in the town of Salem in 1692.
The show, which is inspired by real events, tells the story of a young girl witnessing and participating in the Salem witch trials.
A group of girls from a small Puritan town hides from their families and guardians to indulge in dancing, games and fortune-telling in the woods. One of them is unhappily in love and naively believes that a spell she heard from a slave will bring back her beloved. The local priest sees them and - driven by fear or accusation of witchcraft against the girls, some of whom are his students - he invites a young and ambitious pastor, a well-known exorcist, to the town. Out of fear of the gallows, they start accusing many innocent townspeople of communing with the devil. Panic erupts. Hysteria spreads at an alarming rate. Accusations are followed by hastily handed down sentences. Neighbours accuse neighbours, husbands accuse wives, parents accuse each other. Falsified evidence lead to more and more convictions. Peaceful and ordinary people turn into a frenzied mob hungry for punishment and blood. Personal hysteria turns into a collective psychosis that destroys both victims and executioners.
Admittedly, some know the truth, but they too end up accused. Will they manage to save their lives and Salem's good name? Can anyone or anything stop the reign of terror? How can common sense and the truth be defended from the fear for life and the rising tide of absurd accusations? Can the deepest love stand the most difficult test and is it ready for the greatest sacrifice?
In the age of new invisible enemies surrounding us from sides, unbridled slander and religious zeal, the story is more relevant than ever.
Première: 18 April 2026
